Sustainability
Sustainability is the capacity to endure in a relatively ongoing way across various domains of life. In the 21st century, it refers generally to the capacity for Earth’s biosphere and human civilization to co-exist. Sustainability has also been described as “meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs” (Brundtland, 1987). For many, sustainability is defined through the interconnected domains of environment, economy and society. Sustainable development, for example, is often discussed through the domains of culture, technology economics and politics.
According to Our Common Future (Brundtland Report), sustainable development is defined as development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Sustainability
Nachhaltigkeit ist die Fähigkeit, in verschiedenen Lebensbereichen auf relativ dauerhafte Weise zu bestehen. Im 21. Jahrhundert bezieht sie sich allgemein auf die Fähigkeit der Biosphäre der Erde und der menschlichen Zivilisation, nebeneinander zu existieren. Nachhaltigkeit wurde auch beschrieben als “die Bedürfnisse der heutigen Generation zu befriedigen, ohne die Fähigkeit künftiger Generationen zu gefährden, ihre Bedürfnisse zu befriedigen” (Brundtland, 1987). Für viele wird Nachhaltigkeit durch die miteinander verknüpften Bereiche Umwelt, Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft definiert. Nachhaltige Entwicklung wird zum Beispiel oft über die Bereiche Kultur, Technologie, Wirtschaft und Politik diskutiert.
Laut Our Common Future (Brundtland-Bericht) wird nachhaltige Entwicklung als eine Entwicklung definiert, die “die Bedürfnisse der Gegenwart befriedigt, ohne die Fähigkeit künftiger Generationen zu gefährden, ihre eigenen Bedürfnisse zu befriedigen”.
